Not your average blog post.

I've been thinking about writing more lately, so I'm just going to write here.

Heads up, this story doesn't have much to do with coaching, but I was challenged by my coach, Nathaniel Montgomery, to write about these two words: Triathlons and McDonald's.

Here is what came up.

When I was training for a triathlon in 2015, I received a complimentary food analysis (a fancy name for someone who wants to tell me what to eat) from a dietician. She made recommendations for my diet like what my calorie intake should be vs. my exercise calorie output (a fancy name for telling me I'm too fat and should exercise more).

My food log was based on a very busy week, so 6 of the 7 days were filled with fresh fruits and vegetables, healthy carbs and low fat proteins.

When I received the feedback from the dietician, she focused soley on the one day of that very busy week where I had to get McDonalds for lunch. What did I order? A ranch chicken wrap with grilled chicken and lettuce, tomato. Maybe the healthiest thing on the menu? I could have chosen a Big Mac which has 3 layers of highly processed hamburger bun, with 2 slices of processed cheese, a high fat mayo based dressing on it, and large fries.

It was so frustrating because I already knew all the stuff she talked about. Fresh veggies, healthy carbs and low fat proteins, she advised. That's what I should focus on.

McDonalds will never be a good choice due to its high fat protein and highly processed carbs, especially when training for a triathlon, she said.

UGH. What a waste of time!

Everyone eats Mcdonald's lady. I know you do, too.
