Start where you are.

What do we do when something in our lives is shifting? Maybe it’s in your work. Your family life. Your sense of identity.

Or maybe it’s a simple awareness that something doesn’t feel quite right. Things that used to be easy and familiar, are no longer feeling that way.

I’ve been there. After spending hours scouring the job boards for another job that would pay the bills, I found myself wanting more. Not just a job, I wanted a new direction. I wanted to use my skills for something bigger and better.

At the time, I had only heard about the different types of coaching. I didn’t know the meaning of “coaching” beyond my kids’ hockey coaches, but I was curious. I googled it and became more curious. The social media algorithms did their thing and showed me ads for coaching classes. I clicked.

Here I am a year later with a thriving coaching business!

Sometimes the shifts are obvious. We search for a new role or a career pivot like I did.

Other times, it’s quieter. It’s a restlessness we can’t ignore. A sense that what we’ve built no longer fits.

These are transitions and they ask us powerful questions like, “What will you do next?” or “Who are you becoming?”

A year ago, I didn’t know what I would do next, but something about those coaching social media posts aligned with who I was becoming. As they suggested, I took some time, reflected on who I was and who I wanted to become. My perspective changed and I gave myself permission to just click and get started.

I started where I was and got to work. The transition led to the creation of something completely unexpected.

Coaching has a tendency to do that for people. We see more clearly. We learn. We trust our own thinking. We begin to move forward.

We start where we are.
